Behind the Song

The song almost nobody's found

August 24, 2026

Every week I look at the numbers, and every week the same little song raises its hand from the back of the room.

"Make It Shake" has been heard by fewer people than were in line at Publix this morning. But here's the stat that gets me: the people who do find it play it four times each. Four. That's not a polite listen. That's somebody hitting the back button.

The catalog has a hundred-plus songs now, and I've learned they live very different lives. Some get carried around by playlists and meet thousands of people on shuffle. Others sit in a quiet corner and wait. It has almost nothing to do with which songs are best — it's currents and luck, same as anything that floats.

So consider this me walking to the back of the room and pointing: this one. If you've got three minutes today, give "Make It Shake" one of your plays and see if you end up giving it four. If it's not for you, no harm — there's a whole shelf of quieter ones a few feet away.

And if you've already found it — you're one of about eighteen people on Earth, and I'd genuinely love to know what you'd put on a setlist next to it.
