The other half, plugged in

There's a second thing running alongside all this and it's time I explained it properly instead of letting people find it by accident.

The DAG Band is the loud version of what I do. Same Gulf Coast, same writer, considerably more drums.

The solo records are built for the quiet hours. A guitar, a beach, something you can hold still. That's a real mode and I'm not abandoning it. But it isn't the only mode, and trying to make one name cover both was making both of them blurry.

So the band gets its own name, its own site, its own channel. The live cuts live there — the ones with a room in them, where you can hear people. Those recordings never sat right beside the quiet stuff. Put "Stay Here Awhile" straight after a full-volume live take and neither one gets to be what it is.

The first of them are up now and more go up over the next week. Same Lyric Poster format as the solo videos, but the palettes run darker — stage light and bar amber instead of turquoise and sand. It's night music. It should look like night.

Something I've had to be honest with myself about: this isn't two audiences yet. It's one audience and two doors. The band side is starting from nothing while the solo side has a few years on it. That's fine. Starting from nothing is where everything starts, and I'd rather build it deliberately than keep having the loud songs turn up in the middle of a quiet record and confuse everybody, including me.

If you only want the beach songs, nothing changes for you. If you want the version with the whole band behind it and a room singing back, that's what the other channel is for.

Both of them are me. One of them just has the amps on.
